The Egg Farm

Located on Number 7 highway, two kilometers west of the village of Norwood, Ontario, is an egg farm. Known as Telford’s, the business has changed hands over the years, but the name has remained the same. An honour system is still in place in the egg room, a self serve system based on trust. Customers jot down what they bought on a pad of paper and slide the cash through a slot in a door, where the sound of the money falling into some kind of container on the other side can be heard. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, there will be jumbo eggs, which are not common, most of which contain double yolks.

Since moving to Peterborough, we have enjoyed Telford’s eggs, only purchasing eggs from a store when necessary. Imagine the fresh taste of the eggs, laid by the chicken hours earlier in the barn, a gift Telford’s has been providing the public for sixty-five years.
