Located south of the town of Roseneath, Ontario lies a donkey sanctuary with a resident population of eighty animals. Donkeys of three different breeds make their home here. The special animals, who have been relinquished or rescued, were almost always purchased for hobby farms, petting zoos, or as pets. Often, their friendly nature led to abuse by humans, with many suffering neglect and hunger as a result of their owners’ actions. Some were abandoned or belonged to businesses or farms that closed, while others were loved but their owners were unable to continue to care for them.
The sanctuary began with the arrival of PrimRose, who lived there for many years. The caring woman who owns the sanctuary guides her volunteer staff through the rigors of caring for so many donkeys. Like abused children, some of the animals need extra attention. Displays of affection are common between volunteers and donkeys. A memorable trip to PrimRose Donkey Sanctuary would be an adventure worth taking.

Below is a photo of myself and Sheila, the owner of the sanctuary.
That one donkey certainly appears to LOVE being petted. Nice photo!
Looks like a wonderful place!
