A significant ice storm hit our area of Ontario this past weekend. The freezing rain accumulated on all surfaces, including cars, houses, streets, wires, and all vegetation. The amount of ice on the trees caused many to bend and break, from the excessive weight, which led to numerous power outages.
We were fortunate our home did not sustain any damage, although we did lose power for over 72 hours. Below are a some photos of the ice, the aftermath, and how it impacted the area. The pictures of the ice were taken on Sunday, March 30th, with some of the tree damage found on Monday and Tuesday, once the storm cleared and we were able to get out and about. It is hard to imagine this much devastation was caused by ice, and not a wind event.
Today, Thursday, we went for a walk on the local trail, but were unable to go very far due to the downed trees. The adjacent farmer’s field looked more like a lake and river than dry land, complete with ducks swimming in it. The silver lining, we found the first pussy willows of the season and brought some home to display in our kitchen.
Hope if you were impacted by this, or any other storms, you will fare as well as we did.
